About This Event

The Centre of Excellence, School of Law, Gujarat University, in collaboration with the Upasana School of Performing Arts, successfully organized a unique Lecture Demonstration on “Finding the Law in Traditional Music and Dance.” The session, held on Tuesday, 22nd July 2025, was led by Dr. Raghavi Vishwanath, who served as the key speaker and brought a rare interdisciplinary perspective to the audience.

The session explored the deep connections between classical Indian performing arts and the legal tradition, highlighting how values such as justice, discipline, order, and ethics are embedded in both fields. Drawing from texts like the Natya Shastra and oral traditions, Dr. Vishwanath demonstrated how performance can reflect legal and moral codes.

Live demonstrations enriched the lecture, decoding gestures and expressions through both legal and aesthetic lenses. Students and faculty responded with enthusiasm, engaging in thoughtful discussions that bridged the gap between law and culture. The event also emphasized the relevance of traditional art forms in shaping social consciousness and ethical behavior.

Such interdisciplinary sessions open new doors for learning, helping students view law not just as a system of rules but as a cultural narrative embedded in India’s heritage. The programme added depth to the academic calendar and left participants inspired to explore law beyond the written word.
